Dental WhiteningRecently, the number of patients paying attention to aesthetics, especially to a wonderful and healthy looking smile is rapidly growing. In order to obtain it they undergo a procedure of teeth whitening There are three groups of whitening methods: Surgical BleachingBasically whitening carried out by a dentist within appr. 1,5 hour. A protective barrier is put on the edge of the patient´s gums and then a bleaching gel is applied ( usually around 36% hydrogen peroxide). The gel is left on the teeth to take effect 2-3 times for about 20 minutes while being regularly mixed in order to keep always the active part of the gel on the teeth enamel. This is rather more expensive method that costs between 3000 and 12 000 CZK depending on the type of the used material and the way of bleaching. surgical bleaching is the best and the most effective technique. Home BleachingAnother method, that is more time consuming, is home bleaching. The patient whitens his/her teeth at home for appr. 7 days, 1-2 times a day for about 30 minutes. In general, these tooth whitening preparations contain quite low percentage of the bleaching agents and it might take time for the effect to become discernible. Moreover, they are often widely universal and not always able to cover the complete denture, which limits their effect. For generally lower effect of these preparations the differences between more and less accessible spots on teeth are minimal. A pro of this method is a reasonable price, varying between 1 and 3 thousand CZK. Combined Method of Teeth BleachingThe third method is a combination of the two previously mentioned. A snow-white colour is a magic caused by strong oxidation agents cleaning the pigments in the organic part of the teeth enamel – hydrogen peroxide or a substance called carbamide peroxide. Therefore we recommend to our patients surgical bleaching. The whitening technique is always a matter of individual care and the dentist has to consider it and properly indicate based on the diagnosis, time and the financial limits of the individual patient. The result and the duration of the whitening effect depends on the lifestyle of each patient. Generally 1-2 years. The base for healthy and beautiful teeth is appropriate hygiene. Regular cleaning significantly contributes the success in keeping the result as long as possible. In case a new spots appear on your teeth, it is necessary to repeat the bleaching procedure. Combination of a quick surgical bleaching with an immediate result and up-keeping the effect with one of the home bleaching systems is an ideal. The whitening effect can be negatively influenced by smoking, consumption of drinks and groceries with intense coloration (coffee, tea, red wine, beetroot, blueberries and so on). The client must consider that the fillings, crowns and other dental substitutes can not be bleached. Despite that in cooperation with the dentist it is certainly possible to find an optimal solution even in such cases.
